Priority Programs
University admissions have always been competitive, but that’s true now more than ever. Fortunately, many schools offer programs through which transfer students can earn priority or even guaranteed admission to a university. Here are some of the most popular options available.
ADT (AA-T/AS-T): Completing an Associate Degree for Transfer at a community college earns students guaranteed admission to the CSU system, though it does not guarantee admission to a specific campus or major. This special degree also allows students to use the same educational plan for transfer to any of the 23 CSU campuses, and may enhance the chances of admission to impacted campuses or majors. Interested students are strongly encouraged to meet with their college counselor as early as possible to maximize their opportunities with this degree.
UC’s Transfer Admission Guarantee: The University of California’s Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) program gives students an opportunity to earn guaranteed admission at one of seven participating campuses. Eligibility typically requires a minimum GPA of 3.0 to 3.5, depending on campus, and completion of math and English classes by a campus-specified deadline. A simple TAG application is required in advance of the regular UC application. Complete criteria is available on the UC’s Transfer Admission Guarantee web page.
UCI’s Honors to Honors: The Honors to Honors (H2H) program at UC Irvine provides direct admission into UCI’s Campuswide Honors Program for students who complete an honors program with a GPA of 3.7 or higher at an H2H partner college. The Honors to Honors program also gives UCI transfers the highest priority for the UC Regents Scholarship.
UCLA’s Transfer Alliance Program: The Transfer Alliance Program (TAP) is available to students who complete an honors program at a TAP-partner community college prior to transferring into a major in UCLA’s College of Letters and Science. TAP eligibility provides students with greatly enhanced admission priority to UCLA, access to exclusive TAP scholarships, and several other benefits.
Private and Out of State Transfer Agreements:
Many private and out-of-state colleges and universities offer guaranteed and priority admission programs through certain partner schools. The eligibility requirements and availability of these programs varies greatly, so check with your local community college Transfer Center or Counseling office for details.
